Reviews from the Première
In the absence of an EZoner on the spot and of a CD release,
here are some mixed reviews:
"half-hoedown/half-diabolical"
Variety
"..this rodeo-styled burst of creativity and Americana
was strongly thematic, wildly imaginative, and superbly orchestrated by
Steve Bartek."
Soundtrack.net
Danny Elfman's 'Overeager Overture' was a relentlessly
perky number that might have been subtitled the 'Overeclectic Overture.'
Ross Care, MusicfromtheMovies
Danny Elfman's "The Overeager Overture" was undernourished,
quick bland music.

Did you know...
- The work was previously titled 'Overture for a Non-Existent Musical'
- The première was part of conductor John Mauceri's farewell
concert with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. Mauceri asked Elfman to
write a piece for this occasion when recording the CD release of Serenada
Schizophrana. The programme also included Elmer Bernsteiner's
Fanfare for John at the Bowl, as well as Korngold's Between
two worlds in a concert overture arrangement by the conductor
(U.S. Première) and Bennett's Troubadour Music (World
Première). See
