THE FILM, THE SOUNDTRACK

What happens in Vegas is a typical example of a contrived-plot, moderately humourous dialogue, mismatch love-after-hate movie that survives simply because its formula is familiar and its stars earn their money well. And the cuts are fast enough for the ride not to seem too dull. With this understanding, Vegas does well, the stars are a good choice and earn their wages with gusto. Once the pop songs are crammed, Christophe Beck is wheeled in to prop up the rest. He also earns his wages. Mostly by sucking up his pride and delivering the kind of easy-going kooky guitar-led scene change cues that every identikit romantic comedy deserves. In among this, Beck is kindly permitted a few vaguely pivotal scenes to score, which he approaches with Spanish habanera (comedy) and piano/strings (romance/heart-ache).

Verdict: Watch this movie if you like the stars and want something undemanding from them. Do not watch this movie for Chris Beck's music

Degrees of Beck:

If Vegas gives you the vu's, that's because Ashton Kutcher starred in a very similar romantic comedy, Just Married, with a score from Chris Beck.
